Who We Are

Quality Education. Excellent Results.

Inoue-ha Shito-ryu Keishin-kai (ISK) was formed in 2005 and is led by its founder, Soke Yoshimi Inoue.

Sōke (宗家), pronounced [so-kay], is a Japanese title that means “the head house [of family].” In the realm of Japanese traditional arts, it is used synonymously with the term iemoto (lit. “family foundation”) which is a term used to refer to the founder or current Head Master of a certain school of traditional Japanese art. The term is not limited to the genre of martial arts but is also used to describe a system of familial generations in traditional Japanese arts such as tea ceremony (inc. sencha tea ceremony), ikebana, noh, calligraphy, traditional Japanese dance, traditional Japanese music, the Japanese art of incense appreciation (kōdō). In English, “Grand Master” is often the title that is used. The Soke’s main roles, as head of the house, are to lead the school and protect its traditions, to be the final authority on matters concerning the school, to issue or approve licenses and certificates and to instruct the most advanced practitioners in the technical matters of the art.
